Often overlooked, because they are so common place, the ready availability of FCDs and guidewire bowls when clinicians are performing particular procedures is, in reality, very necessary.
Recognising this in the early part of 2006, we commenced the process of developing our own unique range under the brand name Sollutions.

Solutions is a new brand offering a variety of safety and waste related products as well as standard ancillary items that you will find in procedure packs.
There are now guidelines and regulatory provisions that assist healthcare professionals in effectively managing the waste they generate. The safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste is now made easier by the provision of devices designed specifically mitigate the risks and assist healthcare workers to comply with their statutory "duty of care".
The Kimal Solutions Fluid Collection Device (FCD) is a circular bowl designed for the containment of contaminated fluids and to
reduce the exposure of personnel to blood borne pathogens.
Key Attributes include:
- The container has an integral splash reducing entry point within its funnel and an absorbent pad in its base
- The bowl can be closed with a seal tight lid before its ultimate disposal
- The entry point has a leaflet valve through which syringes are designed to be inserted and evacuated thus reducing the risk of splash back and inadvertent exposure to contaminated solutions.
- The funnel containing the valve is channelled to assist with the
targeted disposal of other waste fluids
- The absorbent pad is manufactured from a medical grade super absorbent polymer and is intended to absorb the waste and therefore
make the ultimate disposal of the bowl safer for the operator
- At the end of the procedure the base of the Solution FCD should be placed on the top of the bowl providing a seal tight lid and preventing spillage during handling
- The Solution FCD is manufactured from medical grade plastic and complies with the regulatory requirements of the Council Directive 93/42/EC concerning Medical Devices (the Medical Devices Directive)
- The new Fluid Collection Device is available as a sterile single use product individually packed or could be incorporated into your procedure pack

The new Kimal Sollution guidewire bowl has been designed to assist in the use, preparation and storage of guidewires and catheters during cardiology and radiology procedures.
Traditional bowls without retaining rings and formed bases have been available for many years and are now the preferred choice for soaking wires and catheters prior to use.
The advantage of using a formed bowl with a retaining ring is that the risk of devices springing out is significantly reduced. The cost of losing a device out of the bowl can be high and the risk to the clinician staff
may be significant.
Key Attributes include:
- The star formation on the base of the container gives excellent stability and allows the wires and catheters to be easily removed
-The Sollution guidewire bowl has the same storage area as a traditional bowl. This enables the wires and catheters to be coiled in order to avoid the risk of kinking during soaking and priming.
- This new guidewire bowl will contain up to 2 litres of fluid. The
measuring function of the bowl allows you to read volumes of 500 ml, 1 ltr, 1.5 ltr and 2 ltr
-There is a pouring spout to aid with the safe disposal of fluids, this is a feature that does not exist on traditional guidewire bowls
-The weight of the Sollution guidewire bowl is only 55 grams empty compared to 107 grams for a typical competitive device
-This design represents a significant reduction in the amount of material used creating a reduced carbon footprint when the bowl is incinerated
Using the latter two points as an example - on a typical annual usage of 2,000 procedures per year this saves 104 kgs of waste. The cost of waste disposal can be as much as £600 or €900 per tonne
- The new guidewire bowl offers a safe and effective way of managing wires and catheters.
This product is available as a sterile single use product or it can be included in your procedure packs.
