TauroLock™ is a relatively new and innovative solution to reducing catheter related bloodstream infection and has produced some very exciting results. Full details available from Tauropharm
Efficiency
It is specifically designed for patients with long and short-term catheters with installation of TauroLock™ into the catheter lumen preventing infections. It is bactericidal within a few hours.
Effective against all bacteria tested (more than 500 organisms including MRSA and VRE), the range of efficiency of TauroLock™ covers a wide spectrum of bacteria and fungi.
The product does not contain antibiotics and no development of bacterial resistance has been observed. If used prophylactically, it effectively avoids colonisation of catheters on the planctonic level and development of biofilm
Safety
The concentration of 4% citrate in TauroLock™ is according to the recommendation of the FDA, dated from April 2000, safe and efficient (ref.: FDA Warning Letter, April 2000).
There are no side-effects by unintended leakage of TauroLock™ into patients, additionally there are no hypocalcaemic effects due to high concentrated citrate solutions
There are no risks due to high concentrations of sodium nor risk of unwanted bleeding due to the use of heparin. To avoid unwanted bleeding, the product is available without or in combination with low concentration of heparin.
TauroLock™ is biocompatible and not toxic with no side effects
